It was an insignificant year and my few plans were modest, at best. The most exceptional thing I could say, when folks asked how I planned to celebrate, was that I was taking the day off.
I can think of no other words other than, I absolutely loved reading Chicken Scratch this morning.... how sharp your eyes became and how keen your senses searched ... You had a perfect birthday...
Haven't grown successful beets in years. Kind of shocked, to be honest. And, for the record, I can show you exactly where to find those TJ's treats. Just say the word. Thanks, Janet.
Such an absolute delight to find this week's Chicken Scratch in my inbox this morning. Your writing always makes me pause and appreciate your take on our world. Thank you for sharing your words.
It's poetry, Elizabeth. "habits...falling like yarn", "squirmy..self-indulgence," "perfection bee in my bonnet", "a small noise like a mother pulling shut the door", "sangria-hued beets", "marble-eyed rabbits." Your story-telling is a thoughtful and welcoming path, with these little gems along the way. Happy birthday. May you make more days like this one. More than one per rabbit lifetime!
Coincidental, Stewart, that you chose the word "poetry." A sat on the fence for a bit with this one, while it tried to convince me it wanted to become a poem. :) Many thanks for the comment and the wishes.
I loved following along on your absolutely gorgeous day, a dream of a day I wish to give myself soon, too! Thanks for sharing, it is very inspiring - and happy birthday!
Prue, have I asked you about your "I reckon" already? I feel like I have, but I can't pin it down. It brings up all of my southern (U.S.) heritage, and I just love it! Thank you.
No, you haven't but it's also incredibly Australian, so I love that it crosses over to another way of life. I'm just listening to Matthew Mcconaughey's book, 'Greenlights' and he uses 'Reckon...' with that Texas Drawl quite a lot!
Happy birthday, Elizabeth. You deserve more of those days. Make it happen!
I will try, Suzanne -- am trying, more accurately. :)

It begins with openness, don't you think? A willingness to believe that perfection is already with us and within us? Thanks for reading, Barry.
What a lovely little bunny & an even better acknowledgement of a beautiful day spent x
So glad you were part of it!
Beautiful, Elizabeth. Thank you for allowing me a seat at your Birthday table. Many more, my friend ♥️
Grateful to know you wanted to be part of the celebration. :)
Sounds like your celebration was perfect. You had me at dark chocolate and peanut butter followed by those gorgeous beets! 🎉🥂🎂

Russ seems to always have some beets that make it. The golden ones are my favorites. He guards them fervently but maybe I can beg a few for you. 😉
😋
Happy Birthday, Elizabeth! Keep writing these wonderful short stories.
Encouraged to know you want to keep reading them, Janet. Thanks!
Happy B’Day Elizabeth, a perfect birthday imho ❤️
Thanks, Susan. Definitely a lovely day.
