I've heard before that every woman needs a good wife. A husband who can do wifely things well in the old school traditions of cooking, cleaning, laundry and corralling children being a woman's work is a welcome addition to most households. Women who "belong" to the bear children, cook and clean crowd probably love J.D. what's his name. I like doing the laundry and the dishes, because instant gratification. Thanks, Elizabeth, for stirring the pot!

Curious you mention pot stirring, Gary. Part of me really wanted to turn this piece into an exposé on gender roles, childless cat ladies, tradwives, and the like. But sometimes, I just need to give myself permission to lighten the mood. Thanks so much for commenting.

I've been spending some good time in the kitchen, stirring my own pots. I mean that literally, as I have been cooking for both of us recently. Love finding a new recipe that's different from the standard fare. Please do the exposé as it is so timely.

Made a double batch of dry roux yesterday, something I’ve not only never done before but didn’t even know was an option until a few days ago. Gumbo for dinner! Will think on whether I have that essay in me or not, Gary. At the moment, I’m enjoying what I might call a lightness of being. Come to think of it, that book might be a good reference point for deeper thinking on this. ☺️

Do I have to buy the boat to get the wench?

I get the impression it's a package deal, Darrell, but they did say "or best offer..!"

Hear ye! Hear ye! (Or maybe that should be Here ye! Here ye! in the spirit of the post.) From wenches, of the automatic variety, to Spaniards -- such fun today following the misspellings into reality.

Really great lines: "I’m a rare combination of my parents’ Depression Era frugality and my own do-or-die tenacity, all smothered in a rich gravy of indecision. In layman’s terms, that means I spend a lot of time pulling myself up by my half-cracked bootstraps while wondering if I’d be better off with duct tape and a pair of Hokas."

This essay really tried hard to get serious on me after the opening paragraphs, but I didn't let it! 😂 Thanks for joining in on the levity, Amy.

My husband and a clerk from Bass Pro Shop had this very conversation. Do you want a wench? No, I want a winch! 😂. Funny memories.

I’m sure it’s a common mistake, one that tickles a lot of funny bones. :) Thanks for sharing your husband’s encounter, Monica. Too funny!

The description of self is awesome. My Mom had a problem with decisions and I try not to so I simply jump feet first into things that are perhaps better left unjumped. But alas, there is much joy.

I truly look forward to seeing your work!

You know how comedians talk about "committing to the bit?" And how improv actors are all about "Yes, and..." when they launch into a sketch?

You nailed it. Extra funny, and just as thoughtful as it wants to be.

Elizabeth, I'm feeling like I must have missed the comedy & improv tutorials when I was more involved in theater work, because both of those concepts are unfamiliar to me. But, gosh, nailed it. Thank you! And I love that [as a poet] you are also apt to read into the spaces of what wasn't written. 😊
