I'm a fan of winter -- well, a Maryland winter, that is -- but my fondness went up a notch with this experience. :) Thank you, Courtney.

I simply love goldfinches... I can see you twirling and I'm feeling like dancing too.. I noticed a short phrase that you used early in your post in reference to the birds when you 1st saw 2 of them.... Your words were simply "whoever they were." Being quite mystical myself and loving nature... my thoughts instantly went to what golden people, who now are heaven dwellers, are flying around your window, peeping in at your twirling...

We finally feel safe scattering bird seed out back, now that our one kitty is older and not inclined to hunt. I'd have a hard time choosing a favorite, but goldfinches are wonderful, for sure.

I'm charmed! I never knew that...I have seen flocks of goldfinches before though. Although chickadees are truly my favorite little birds, these golden beauties are entertaining to watch also. Thanks for sharing your words, and hope to see you guys soon!

Love, C

Chickadees are perfect little powerhouses! (And, apparently, they're called "tits" everywhere but in the U.S.) Thanks for being part of the Scratch community, Carolyn.

A meditative practice is to "look for something you haven't noticed before." This essay reminds me that it works the other way, too: "look for something out there that is noticing you."
