Bok-bok! A special announcement
Dear Scratch family — !
We celebrated our first anniversary here just shy of two months ago, and the time has come for paid subscription options. Two really important things right off the cluck:
My essays and the ability to access comments will always be free for everyone. I am committed to doing what I can to ensure that anyone who wants to read Chicken Scratch can do so.
This request moved up in priority because of a grant opportunity that, if awarded, will help support my ongoing work. Eligible applicants must show proof of existing income from their creative endeavor. Nothing like a deadline to get things popping.
Monthly: $5/mo Yearly: $50/yr
Free subscriptions are not going away, and access to content is not changing much. This new component simply creates an opportunity for folks who are willing and able to support Chicken Scratch financially to do so. Everyone will still have the ability to comment and interact. Everyone will still have my eternal gratitude for believing in this vision and coming along for the journey.
Founding Member: $150 (adjustable)
Founding members are investing in Chicken Scratch for today and tomorrow, like art collectors, if you will, who see value even the artist herself may not see. I’m not a big fan of the general tendency to offer merch (I use that term loosely) for those who have the opportunity to come in at higher levels of contribution - names on buildings, VIP access, better seats, that kind of thing. I see a Founder as someone committed to helping create greater good because that same greater good has already found them.
The next time you access my page, you’ll see an “Upgrade to Paid” button at the top of your screen. You’ll have the option of staying with a free plan or choosing a paying plan. I know — this isn’t a Fortune 500 campaign I’ve got going here. But, it’s how I roll.
More than anything, I want you to know that you are appreciated for reading Chicken Scratch and engaging with the community here. You are an important part of what makes this flock special. Thank you.
Gratefully,
Elizabeth
